At the Wiener Werkstätte in 1903 Josef Hoffmann developed designs for various household objects made of gitterwerk, or gridwork, such as the basket. The gridded sheets of base metal were thus the structure of the objects as well as their decoration. The line was produced between 1905 - 1910. The basket for sale is a re-issue of a Josef Hoffmann design produced by Bieffeplast , Germany in the 1980's. The basket has a decal on the bottom reading "J.Hoffman by Bieffeplast”.
